America’s Future

I’m still thinking about what Jeremiah has to say about Israel and how relevant it is to America today.  Again, I encourage you to read Isaiah and Jeremiah inserting America for Israel and Washington for Jerusalem.  Today I ready Jeremiah 3 and 4.  If you don’t have time or the desire to read all of Isaiah and Jeremiah, just read Jeremiah 4.

America . . . a nation founded belief and trust in God.  But I truly beleive that America has turned her back on Him.  America is now the unfaithful wife, the prostitute.  Not just our governement, but the majority of her individuals.  We cry, “Don’t remove ‘In God We Trust'” and we get irate when someone even mentions excluding “One Nation Under God.”  Yet do we live as though we Trust in God or are a nation under His control?

We’re about to elect a President, and if we are very fortunate we will have a man who is the “lesser of two evils” as our highest elected official.  It seems to have been that way the last few elections.  Is that what we really want?  Or perhaps it’s what we’ve really asked God for without even knowing it.  When Israel cried out to God for a ruler, their Soveriegn King gave them exactly what they asked for.  He warned them through Samuel (I Samuel 8:5-22 & 10:19).  He said, “Warn them . . . what the president who will reign over them will do. . .  He will take your sons and daughters and make them serve.  He will take a portion of your income and give it to his officials and attendants. . . When that day comes you will cry out for relief from the president you have chosen, and the Lord will not answer you on that day.”   God would rule over this nation if she truly wanted to be a nation under God; however, we’ve chosen to let men rule over us, blame them for the state of our nation and then complain that we are in the less than blessed state we are in today.

America, will you turn back to God?  I don’t mean just start attending church (although that would be a nice start if you were to find group of followers that truly honored His Son), I mean begin to completely commit to your Creator.  I’m talking about becoming a nation who completely relies on the Maker of the heavens and the earth.  America has prostituted herself long enough to other nations, big companies and the love of money.

In her youth, America was a nation that followed and loved God.  George Washington would not be a King because he understood the warnings of Samuel, but in the 21st century our entire political system has become our “king.”  God warned we’d pay a king 10% of our income, but if you add it up, you’ll find the amount of taxes coming out of your pay every week is closer to 20% and maybe more if you’re self-employed, single or in a higher tax bracket.

How long will America refuse to yield to the warnings of Isaiah and Jeremiah.  Wise historians have told us that you can either choose to learn from history or repeat it.  America is on her way to repeating the history of the first nation founded by God.   If we continue on this path, we can count on being overcome by our enemies.  That is what happened to ancient Israel.    Are you ready, America?

Are we prepared to be under the control of our evil enemies or would we rather be ruled by a gracious and loving Father?  It’s completely up to us, just as ancient Israel held their future in their hands, so we hold our future.  Which will you choose?   Will we begin to bow to Jesus Christ, the One and Only Living God, or will we continue to serve the gods of money, politics, stocks, jobs, sports and prosperity?   Will we choose Life or death?  (Deuteronomy 29 & 30)

I choose Life . . . me and my house . . . we will serve the Lord
